The Cornwall Coastal Data Hub is a new mapping tool hosted by Cornwall Wildlife Trust which aims to be a central location for exploring marine based digital mapping data and strategic documents for Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly. The Cornwall Coastal Data Hub will provide a variety of ecological and environmental focused coastal and marine data which can inform and contribute to environmental planning, management, and protection across the county.

The role

We need help to make sure we’ve incorporated all the relevant and up-to-date data on our website – including relevant reports, mapping layers, and strategic documents relating to Cornwall’s marine and coastal environment.

This role will involve online research to collect information on relevant mapping layers, surveys, datasets and online reports/strategies to ensure the latest and most relevant data is on our website. The role will involve the use of spreadsheets to manage data and record details of potentially useful new sources of relevant data for the project. The role may also involve using simple GIS techniques to record data on ArcGIS. The role will significantly contribute to the Cornwall Coastal Data Hub project and well help provide valuable evidence and detail for local groups and organisations working on nature recovery in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Skills needed

  • Familiarity with the marine conservation sector
  • An interest or experience in researching maps and documents relating to the marine and coastal environment in Cornwall
  • Experience of basic data management e.g. using spreadsheets to record information
  • Basic experience with GIS e.g. QGIS or ArcPro (desirable)
  • Self-motivated and detail orientated
  • Strong communication skills: verbal and written.
