About the event

and join us on a walk through the dunes with a fun plant ID sheet - your job is to be a nature detective and look for amazing plants hiding in the sand, grass, and little wet areas called dune slacks.

Plants to Look For:

Pyramidal Orchid – A bright pink flower shaped like a pyramid!

  • Early Gentian – A tiny blue flower that only grows in places like this.

Marram Grass – Super-tough grass that holds the dunes together

Petalwort – A teeny-tiny plant that loves wet sand (you'll need sharp eyes!).

Wild Thyme – Smells amazing when you rub the leaves.

Shore Dock – Very rare! Grows in wet dune dips.

Eye Bright – A tiny white or purple flower that looks like it’s wearing little eyelashes!

Self Heal – A purple flower often used in old medicine.
