General Election: 2024 Campaign

General Election: 2024 Campaign

The 2024 general election was one of the most important moments for nature in a lifetime. The new Labour government will be in power for much of the time between now and 2030, the date by which we want to see 30% of land and sea under good conservation management.

With our supporters, Cornwall Wildlife Trust would like to make a difference to the narrative of this general election, and the work of our new MPs in Cornwall. We want to raise the profile of environmental issues with parliamentary candidates, showing how much so many people in Cornwall care about nature and the climate crisis.

Restore Nature Now

So, what's next for nature?

On the 5th July 2024, the day after the UK General Election, we sent each of Cornwall's new MPs a letter - welcoming them into their new roles and asking them to take bold action in order to reverse the decline of nature in Cornwall.

Each letter congratulates the candidate, and expresses our excitement to continue our relationship with each of the elected officials and keep putting nature at the forefront of their agenda.

The letter goes on to detail how many of their constituents signed our Open Letter, as we call on these newly elected MPs to step up and take urgent action for Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places.

"Nature is relying on you."
