Exploring the connections between nature, diversity, and inclusion 

Cornwall Wildlife Trust was delighted to attend Truro Pride earlier this month for the second consecutive year, joining together with communities from across Cornwall to celebrate diversity and inclusion.  

As a conservation charity working to create a Cornwall that thrives for people and wildlife, we know that protecting nature requires a wide range of voices, perspectives, and experiences. That is why events such as Truro Pride are an important opportunity for us to connect with local communities, share conversations, and demonstrate our commitment to creating a more inclusive conservation movement. 

Bringing Queer Ecology to Truro Pride 

One of our highlights was the conversations brought about thanks to our Queer Ecology display, which encouraged visitors to explore the incredible diversity found throughout the natural world. The display sparked thoughtful discussions about the many ways plants, animals, and ecosystems challenge assumptions about identity and behaviour. This highlights just how powerful nature can be as a starting point for conversations about diversity and inclusion. 

Our Wild About Inclusion approach 

Our presence at Truro Pride reflects Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Wild About Inclusion approach, which seeks to inspire, empower, and engage people from all backgrounds, cultures, identities, and abilities to play their part in nature recovery and climate action. We believe that nature is for everyone. To successfully tackle the climate and nature crises, conservation must be accessible, welcoming, and relevant to all communities. 

Building a stronger movement for nature 

By attending community events such as Truro Pride, we hope to reach people who may not have previously engaged with conservation and demonstrate that environmental action is strengthened when it includes a diverse range of voices and experiences.
