How can we help?

Contact us and enquiries

We love hearing from you about wildlife and nature in Cornwall. Regretfully, due to the large numbers of enquiries that we receive and our very limited capacity, we cannot always respond straight away.

Please note: we are unable to help with enquiries related to wildlife crime and injured wildlife (please see below for guidance on these issues).

To direct your enquiry to the relevant contact as quickly as possible, please review and select the relevant option from the dropdown lists below

Help identifying a species

Use our Species A-Z for help identifying a species. If you’re still unsure, please email our Wildlife Information Service (WIS) at WIS@cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk

Report a wildlife sighting

If you’ve seen something interesting and want to tell us about it, please visit our 'Wildlife Recording' webpage to find out how you can submit your sighting to us.

Our Marine Strandings Network team would also like to know about any stranded marine wildlife found around our Cornish coastline, including smaller marine life such as coastal birds and jellyfish. If you've found a dead marine animal, please call our dedicated Strandings hotline immediately on 0345 201 2626.

Report a wildlife crime

Cornwall Wildlife Trust has no legal power to stop any direct threats to wildlife. If you witness a wildlife crime in an emergency situation, always dial 999. Otherwise please report it to the Police in one of the following ways:

Do you need help and advice? Not sure where to look or who to speak to? Why not AskNED – Devon and Cornwall Police’s non-emergency directory. AskNED combines the most commonly asked questions with contact details of those who can help.

You can also report crime anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website: crimestoppers-uk.org

Marine harassment (less serious or not immediate) can be reported to Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Marine Disturbance 24-hour hotline on 0345 201 2626. All reports should be supported by photos and videos if possible, full descriptions of vehicles and individuals and an accurate location.

Find out more about taking action for wildlife by visiting our 'Be a Wildlife Hero' page.

Sick, injured or stranded animals

We are sorry but we are unable to deal with sick or injured wild animals ourselves. If you have found an injured animal, or an animal that you believe is in need of help, visit our ‘Injured, sick or dead wildlife’ page for a list of organisations who will be able to help.

  • The UK is currently experiencing a high number of seabird deaths due to avian flu. Cornwall Wildlife Trust is asking the public and the Trust's volunteers to stay away from sick or dead seabirds and under no circumstances touch or handle the animals due to the high risk and severity of Avian bird flu. Any dead bird records must be called into the Defra hotline immediately.

We are, however, able to help with any dead marine wildlife strandings or any marine life which is being disturbed.

  • If you’ve found a dead marine animal, please call our dedicated Strandings Hotline immediately on 0345 201 2626.
  • If you’ve witnessed an incident of marine wildlife disturbance, please report is as soon as possible by ringing our Disturbance Hotline on 0345 201 2626.

If you find a live, stranded animal in difficulty, please call British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) immediately on 01825 765546.

For all other Marine Emergency Contacts, take a look at the 'Injured, sick or dead wildlife' page or the 'Other useful contacts' section below.

There are numerous ways in which you can help wildlife in your own garden, from building bug hotels and bird nest boxes to providing hibernation spots for frogs and toads. Visit our wildlife gardening page or our action for wildlife page for ideas and inspiration on how you can help your local wildlife. For general advice on encouraging wildlife, check our FAQs.
