About the event

Cornwall is home to some of the UK's amazing reptiles. The dunes are a great habitat for adders, slow worms, grass snakes, and common lizards because because they provide the ideal warm, open, and sandy environment needed for survival.

These habitats offer perfect basking spots to regulate body temperature, loose sand for burrowing and laying eggs, and sparse vegetation that allows for quick warming.

We will be walking through the MOD side of Penhale Dunes which is not open to the public. This means that the wildlife is even more amazing due to less disturbance from people and dogs.

Please note, we will be looking under the reptile tins that we put out where they will be resting and warming up and not touching them. We need to minimise disturbance so we do not cause any stress to these creatures.
