Escape to Looe Island's Bell Tent

Experience a truly unique island glamping getaway in the heart of Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Looe Island Nature Reserve.

Perched just off the Cornish coast and surrounded by spectacular scenery, wildlife and sea views, our furnished Bell Tent offers the chance to slow down, switch off and immerse yourself in nature. Wake to birdsong and stunning sunrises over the Ranneys, spend your days exploring this special island sanctuary, and enjoy unforgettable sunsets over Gribbin Head.

Once the day visitors have departed, you'll discover the magic of island life after hours, with peaceful evenings, dark skies, star-filled nights and the soothing sound of waves on the shore.

Designed to have a minimal impact on this special nature reserve, the Bell Tent combines comfort, adventure and an opportunity to reconnect with nature in one of Cornwall's most remarkable locations.

Before You Book

The Bell Tent comfortably sleeps two adults on a double mattress and also includes two additional single mattresses if required. Please note that pets are not permitted on Looe Island in order to protect the island's wildlife and sensitive habitats.

Access to Looe Island is by boat, with arrivals and departures typically taking place around 10:30am. Exact timings will be confirmed closer to your stay. As crossings are dependent on weather and sea conditions, changes or cancellations can occasionally occur at short notice, so we recommend keeping travel plans flexible by a couple of days either side of your booking.

Looe Island is a remote nature reserve, and guests should expect to remain on the island for the duration of their stay. There are no shops on the island, so you'll need to bring all food, drinks and personal items required during your visit.

The Bell Tent includes:

  • Furnished sleeping area with double mattress and pillows
  • Additional single mattresses
  • Two-ring camping stove (gas provided)
  • Pots, pans, crockery and cutlery
  • Cool box and freezer blocks
  • Access to a small fridge/freezer
  • Outdoor picnic table
  • BBQ and fire brazier
  • Dedicated compost toilet nearby
  • Binoculars and wildlife information

As part of our commitment to sustainability, the Bell Tent provides a low-impact, off-grid experience. Drinking water is supplied for cooking and drinking, but there is no electricity, shower, running hot water or mains water supply at the tent. We kindly ask guests to use the island's limited resources thoughtfully during their stay.

A full list of what's provided, what you'll need to bring, and important guidance for staying on the nature reserve can be found on the Cornwall Wildlife Trust website via the link above. Guests are asked to follow all island guidance, including using the main beach for sea access, helping us protect the wildlife and habitats that make Looe Island so special.

Please find the Accommodation Terms & Conditions here.

We look forward to welcoming you to Looe Island and hope you enjoy an unforgettable island glamping escape.

Mobility

Access to the island involves climbing over the side of the boat onto a narrow portable landing trolley. Please wear sensible footwear. Care is also needed to negotiate the swash of the waves which can cover the trolley. Please note that there is limited assistance to get on/off the boat.

Once landed you will then be led across the sand and shingle beach up a sloping path to the simple visitor centre. Elsewhere on the island some paths are steep, uneven, narrow and slippery, so we recommend wearing appropriate footwear and be aware that there are some steps around the buildings.

Expect changeable weather and bring/wear suitable clothing for the boat crossing (Evie J is a small open fishing boat) and for walking around the island - much of which can be very exposed to the elements.

Binoculars are really useful to bring.
