About the event
Overlooking a peaceful wooded valley on the Waterloo River, a tributary of the River Camel, the heart of the Lavethan estate is an elegant Grade II* listed manor house, much extended from its 15th century core. With some of the largest free-standing oaks in Cornwall (which have featured in artworks by Tacita Dean), a lovingly restored Victorian water garden, plus a recently uncovered double Victorian staircase that climbs to a small grotto in a dell, this garden is a real gem. You can walk down through the meadows to the tumbling river to gaze back at the house, immersed in the sounds of nature.
