About the event

The Cornwall Marine & Coastal Code Group will be hosting an Operation Seabird event, a UK-wide partnership between police forces, conservation organisations and local authorities, created to help people enjoy our coastline responsibly. By giving wildlife the space it needs, we can all play a part in protecting seabirds, dolphins and other marineanimals for future generations.

Alongside the event, Cornwall Wildlife Trust will be hosting a sea watch, with telescopes and binoculars available to help you spot the wildlife that lives on, in and around our seas and understand how we can all do our part to protect it. Wildlife is wonderfully unpredictable, so sightings are never guaranteed, but August is a great time to visit Godrevy. Keep an eye out for birds such as gannets, Manx shearwaters, fulmars and kestrels. If conditions are calm, there's even a chance of spotting seals, common dolphins or harbour porpoises, which often visit St Ives Bay.

What to expect:

  • Find out how the Cornwall Marine & Coastal Code Group and Operation Seabird help protect Cornwall's coastal wildlife.
  • Wildlife watching with Cornwall Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers.
  • Use of telescopes and binoculars.
  • Learn how to identify seabirds and discover more about their behaviour.
  • Find out how the Cornwall Marine & Coastal Code Group and Operation Seabird help protect Cornwall's coastal wildlife.
  • A friendly, informal event suitable for all ages and experience levels.

Whether you're a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or simply curious about what you might see along the Cornish coast, everyone is welcome. Come along, discover the fascinating marine life of Godrevy, and learn how we can all help wildlife thrive by enjoying our coast responsibly.

We look forward to seeing you!

Dogs

On a lead

Dogs are allowed but please bear in mind that sea watches are usually popular and well attended.

Mobility

Footpaths are available throughout the outdoor spaces, though the paths leading to the Seawatch survey area are steep, uneven and there is no step-free access. The main areas feature steep ramps and slopes without handrails. Bench seats are available along the paths for resting.

There are 2 Blue Badge parking bays. There is no designated drop-off point, and obstacles include a lack of pedestrian walkways to cross the car park. The car park includes uneven surfaces, potholes, and speed bumps.

The accessible toilet is located in the car park, with access via a slight ramp/slope. More info found here AccessAble - Your Accessibility Guide

The single sex toilets (male and female signage) requires access via one step with no handrails, and the door is manual, permanently held open with high colour contrast. The cubicle’s widest door opening is 77cm, and the wash basin tap is push type. Lighting levels are low, and hand dryers are available.

What to bring

  • Weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
  • Binoculars if you have them (we'll have telescopes available too).
  • Water and any snacks you may need.
  • Sunblock (fingers crossed for sunshine!)
