About the event

Lichens are all around us. From string-of-sausages, to sea-storm lichen, tree lungwort and the 'stinky' Stictas, the world of lichens is weird and wonderful. Part fungus, and part alga, these symbiotic organisms are immensely diverse. Get up close and discover their beautiful and intricate world - a walk through the woods will never be the same again!

During this session you will:

  • Find out what lichens are, how they survive and reproduce.
  • Explore the importance of lichens to wildlife and people.
  • Discover the key features used to identify different lichen species.
  • Learn how to identify a range of common lichen species and some rarer temperate rainforest specialists.
