About the event

Join Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Encounter Cornwall for a magical evening on the beautiful Fowey Estuary as day gently turns to dusk.

Accompanied by an experienced guide and a member of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust team, you'll spend two peaceful hours exploring this special tidal landscape by kayak. Depending on the tide, we'll either venture into the tranquil waters of Penpol Creek or glide along the estuary's sandbanks as the setting sun casts a golden glow across the river.

Along the way, keep watch for shoals of mullet moving upstream from the sea, wading birds settling into their evening roosts, and the rich wildlife that calls this estuary home. As the river slows and the light softens, you'll experience one of Cornwall's most beautiful natural spectacles.

Our adventure concludes in the picturesque riverside village of Golant, where you'll have the opportunity to relax with a drink and enjoy supper at the renowned Fisherman's Arms. It's the perfect chance to unwind, share stories from the paddle, and make new friends while overlooking the water.

A memorable evening of wildlife, wellbeing, and wonderful company awaits.

What to bring

  • Spare Clothes: It's important to bring a spare set of clothes, as your feet and legs may get wet, especially on your first trip.
  • Waterproofs: Please bring a waterproof jacket. We have a limited number of loaner waterproofs available in generic sizes.
  • Sun Protection (for hot weather): Bring a sun hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Water reflects the sun, and you can get sunburned quickly.
  • Cold Weather Gear (for cold weather/evening paddles): Wear layers, including warm clothing, fleece, jumpers, and hats/gloves.
  • Footwear: Wear footwear that can get wet (e.g., old shoes or water shoes). Please avoid wearing your best shoes or trainers.
