Our Values

At Cornwall Wildlife Trust, our values guide everything we do. They reflect who we are, how we work, and what drives us in our mission to protect Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places. Together, they shape our vision of a thriving natural Cornwall for everyone.

Everyone at Cornwall Wildlife Trust plays a vital role in living our values and helping us achieve our vision of a Cornwall where nature thrives. We are a values-driven organisation that strives to do our work to high ethical standards.

We are Passionate and Inspiring

We believe in our vision of a Cornwall where nature thrives and know that what we do matters. We are committed to our work and inspire others to join us.

We are Knowledgeable and Authentic

We bring expertise and credibility to our work, ensuring actions and decisions are grounded in integrity, accountability, evidence and practicality.

We are Inclusive and Enabling

We know we cannot turn the tide on nature’s decline alone, and that everyone has a role to play. We listen to, learn from, collaborate with, involve, educate and empower others to deliver change.

We are Focused and Impactful

We are ambitious and determined to deliver impact. We recognise the need to be creative, applying bold new approaches alongside the things we know already work.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

At Cornwall Wildlife Trust, we believe that nature is for everyone and that we all have a role to play in its recovery. We want to empower people of all backgrounds, cultures, identities and abilities to connect with nature, and to take action for wildlife where they live, learn and work. We want to better understand and address the inequalities experienced by many local communities in accessing and connecting with nature. This includes recognising that the conservation sector is one of the least diverse professions in the UK and that access to careers and educational opportunities needs to be significantly improved.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust, along with all 45 other Wildlife Trusts, has adopted a framework called Wild About Inclusion. This focuses on inspiring, empowering, and engaging everyone to play their part in nature recovery and climate action.

The benefits of the Wild About Inclusion approach are:

  • More people take action for nature: people from across society have better access to nature and more opportunities to play a part in nature’s recovery.
  • Better organisational performance: diverse and inclusive organisations have increased creativity, innovation, and employee satisfaction.
  • Greater support from communities: being inclusive and relevant for diverse communities attracts support from a wider range of people.
  • Staff are happier and healthier: an inclusive working environment means everyone has equal opportunities to develop, progress and be recognised at work.

We are using the Wild About Inclusion framework to guide us to better understand the oppression and barriers that people face and become more active in making change.
