Cornwall Wildlife Trust welcomes today’s proposals to free public money for Cornwall’s environment

The government proposals – which include money being redirected from direct farm payments based on the amount of land farmed, to a new system of paying farmers ‘public money for public goods’ – principally their work to enhance the environment and invest in sustainable food production - aligns closely with the Trust’s own ambitions; namely protecting and enhancing wildlife on land and at sea and re-connecting people with nature.
Cornwall’s first Love Your Beach Day

Cornwall’s first ever Love Your Beach Day happens on February 14, Valentine’s Day, and will involve thousands of people throughout Cornwall taking part in a massive beach clean. Your Shore Beach Rangers, a project of Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Cornwall College are coordinating the event and calling for everyone to join in and show their love for the marine and coastal environment.

A second showing of the award-winning film ‘Wild Cornwall – Out of the Edge’ will be at the Poly Arts Centre, Falmouth, on Wednesday 21st February following an early sell-out of UK premiere tickets on the 8th February.
Farmers soiling their undies for good grass in Cornwall

Farmers in West Cornwall have been burying their underpants to help with their grassland management. Cotton underpants are made from organic matter, so an attractive feast for soil microbes and earthworms. Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s farm advisers, working on South West Water’s Upstream Thinking project, have encouraged eight farmers to bury pants under their grass. After two months, the holiness of the underpants gives an indication of soil health.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust welcomes new Chief Executive, Carolyn Cadman, following the retirement of Trevor Edwards after 37 successful years establishing and growing the Trust. Carolyn joins the Trust with a wealth of experience in Cornwall and in national environmental bodies.
Cornwall Wildlife Trust welcomes new 25 year Environment Plan but highlights action is key

Cornwall Wildlife Trust welcomes the Government’s 25 year Environment Plan which was released today. Many of the policies outlined in the plan align closely with the Trust’s own ambitions; namely protecting and enhancing wildlife on land and at sea and re-connecting people with nature. The document calls for ‘an approach to agriculture, forestry, land-use and fishing that puts the environment first’, something that Cornwall has collectively advocated in the Cornwall Environmental Growth strategy launched back in 2016 by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership.
Trust host UK premiere of award winning new Cornish wildlife film

Local Partnership awarded National Lottery support to enhance unique Penwith landscape

Confirmation that Penwith Landscape Partnership has secured a National Lottery grant of £2,529,100 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for the First and Last – Our Living Working Landscape scheme, was announced last week.
Trust plant 400 trees for the future

A team of Cornwall Wildlife Trust volunteers have planted over 400 native trees to create new woodland for the future. The planting scheme, carried out this November on a farm near Helston, will bring benefits to wildlife and water quality, as well as providing an educational resource for schools and community groups.
