Arundell Garden at West Pentire, Crantock, opens for Cornwall Wildlife Trust on July 14th and situated on a headland between two fantastic beaches it’s a real stunner. This award winning garden has also featured on television’s Gardeners World programme.

It opens on Sunday 14th July from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.  Admission to the garden is £5 per adult, with under 16s free. Refreshments will be available with cream teas and beverages provided by Roddas, Berrymans and Cornish Coffee. There will also be a plant stall. Well behaved dogs on leads are allowed. There is disabled access to the garden via the rear gate. However, there are 14 shallow steps in the middle of the garden.

The garden is one acre set around an original farm cottage in the most amazing location.  In front of the house is a cottage garden while to the side is a small Mediterranean garden, both of which enjoy stunning sea views.

Behind the house, there is a rockery and shrubbery. More cottage garden leads to a pond and stream; there are herbaceous borders, a stumpery and fernery, gravel garden, a small pinetum area and a spectacular exotic garden.

Stumpery gardens date from Victorian times and are similar to rockeries, but use dead wood in place of rocks. These make an ideal habitat for ferns. Arundell offers an excellent opportunity to see this feature.

Apart from the television appearance, the Arundell garden has also featured in Cornwall Life, Cornwall Today, and ‘Coast’ magazine and is a previous winner in the Newquay in Bloom contest.

Isabella Hawkes, Community Fundraising Officer for the Trust, says,

“Arundell has truly deserved its appearance on television and in the county’s magazines and we are sure everyone will enjoy visiting it, apart from the garden, the views are amazing.
