Save Local Wildlife Sites

Thanks to Save Local Wildlife Sites, our online campaign here in Cornwall and across the UK, Cornwall's wildlife and wild places now have more protection.

The campaign, led by the Wildlife Trusts, strove to combat Government proposals to remove protection for local wildlife sites, and it’s success was followed by revised national guidance for planning and reinstated protection for Cornwall’s Wildlife Sites.

Professor Jan Pentreath, President of Cornwall Wildlife Trust, said:
“Thank you to everyone who joined our campaign – you have really made a difference. County Wildlife Sites have now been reinstated as important havens and safe spaces for Cornwall’s birds, bees, plants and all aspects of nature across Cornwall.”

The Trust is now keen to work closely with Cornwall Council to adapt the Local Plan for Cornwall and to encourage the involvement of local organisations, communities, volunteers and members of the Trust to help secure – and ideally grow - the amount of land being managed as a haven for Cornwall’s wildlife.
