Event details
About the event
We are inviting young people aged 16-18 and their parents/guardians to join us at Cabilla and Redrice Woods nature reserve on Sunday 15th November at 10am (GMT) for a fun and hands-on introduction to coppicing!
Whether you're interested in conservation as a career or simply want to spend an active day outdoors, this is a great chance to learn a tradition conservation skill, meet fellow volunteers, and enjoy nature.
No experience needed — just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to make a difference while having a blast!
We will provide all equipment and safety gloves. If you have your own work/gardening gloves you are welcome to bring them.
Meeting point
We will meet at Sawmills Car Park W3W: ///mastering.confident.speedy. Once you have crossed the bridge over the River Fowey take the right lane just before the Leball Woods sign. Please arrive on time as it may be difficult to find the group once we have entered the reserve.
The day will start with a safety briefing and short talk on the methods and benefits of scything. You will then have the chance to get stuck in and make a real difference managing bracken in the wood pasture. We will have a break at 12.30pm for lunch where you are welcome to ask questions.
Important information
There are no facilities so please be prepared to spend the day outside whatever the weather. The ground is uneven, can be muddy, and includes inclines. Participants must be able to stand and walk on this terrain for extended periods of time.
You will need to bring: wellies, long trousers, suncream, waterproofs, lunch, water, snacks and all those under 18 must attend with a legal guardian.
