About the event
Join Cornwall Wildlife Trust for a Wild Workday with a real difference. You will be learning the ancient art of scything, a centuries-old technique that is still one of the most effective and wildlife-friendly ways to manage habitats. With expert guidance, you will then put your new skill to work helping us control bracken at Helman Tor, our largest nature reserve and the heart of our ambitious Tor to Shore project.
Bracken is a beautiful plant, but left unchecked it dominates landscapes and crowds out the rare flora and invertebrates that need open ground to thrive. By scything bracken back, you will be directly helping to restore habitats for everything from butterflies and reptiles to ground-nesting birds.
What you will be doing
- Learning the basics of scythe use, from set-up and stance to safe, effective cutting
- Putting that skill to work helping our reserves team manage bracken across the Tor
- Spending the day outdoors in one of Cornwall's most stunning landscapes
- Connecting with people from other businesses across the region
A unique networking opportunity
This is not just a chance to step outdoors and make a real difference. It is also a brilliant way to meet like-minded people from other businesses, build new connections, and bring colleagues from different departments or supply chain partners along for a shared experience. Some of the most meaningful business conversations happen over a cup of tea on a Cornish hillside.
Looking for a private event for your team?
We also offer standalone Wild Workdays for individual businesses, where your team has the whole event to themselves. This is a brilliant option for team away days.
