About the event
Find out more about the enigmatic intertidal seagrass and what we're doing to restore it.
We are very lucky in Cornwall to have lots of seagrass meadows scattered along our south coast, providing nursery grounds for commercially important fish, helping to trap carbon, and reduce the movement of sediment.
But what not everyone knows, is seagrass doesn't just grow underwater in our seas, it can also be found on the intertidal zone, high up in our estuaries, where it spends most of the day exposed by the tide.
This intertidal seagrass, which is commonly found on muddy sedients, can trap twice as much carbon than seagrass on sand, but it's disappearing from our coastlines!
This online talk will take your through the Cornwall Wildlife Trust's seagrass restoration project, as well as local research into the impacts of water quality on seagrass meadows from Justin Hean.
