Welcome to Cornwall Wildlife Trust's events calendar. Everyone is welcome to attend our events which are held all over Cornwall. Events range from walks and talks to working parties and evening get togethers.

Coppice and keep at Helman Tor Nature Reserve
Red Moor is a vast, wild corner of Cornwall with a wide range of habitats and a spectacular array of wildlife – including dormice. The northern part of the Nature Reserve has hazel woodland which we manage by coppicing to provide better habitats for the dormice. Come and join in with this rewarding task, with the added bonus of filling up your car boot with the firewood you cut!

Marvellous minibeasts near Looe
Booking is essential. Join the Monkey Sanctuary’s Education team to build bug hotels out of wood and bamboo while learning about which beasties you will be able to help in your garden when you put them up at home. The workshop will take place in the gardens of the Monkey Sanctuary away from the monkeys to ensure they get their well-deserved rest over the winter period. Suitable for Primary aged children with parents/grandparents.

Shark night in Looe
Looe Marine Conservation Group presents a fascinating Shark Night in Looe in the home town of the 'Shark Angling Club of Great Britain'. Learn from Dr Ken Collins of the National Oceanography Centre, about the important contribution Looe makes to shark conservation through the shark tag and release programme. And hear the story of two English Great White shark wildlife guides about to embark on a world tour in 2015 to raise awareness of the plights of sharks. No age restriction.

Seaquest sessions - plastic fantastic at Allet
Booking is essential. Join wildlife enthusiasts and marine biologists from Cornwall Wildlife Trust and the local Voluntary Marine Conservation Groups for an insight into the problem of marine litter. Learn about the impacts of the increased volume of plastics ending up in our oceans and the consequences this has for marine life, as well as finding out what you can do to help. Islands seem to fascinate people, especially ones that are hard to reach. Looe Island is no exception. Now owned by Cornwall Wildlife Trust, this talk will bring together information gathered over the years by a succession of
authors to tell the story of the island. Local historian Mark Camp will share stories of how the boy Jesus came to visit the island, how it became a haven for smugglers and how two sisters from suburbia saved it from becoming a
20th century millionaires playground.

Cornwall's Coastal Palaeoforests in Context at Cornwall College Pool
Recent storms have uncovered a number of ‘submerged forests’ and peat beds on beaches around the UK. The coastal palaeoforests, together with other organic-rich deposits exposed around Cornwall, record evidence of environmental conditions during the mid to late Holocene. The most impressive intertidal palaeoforest deposits are those seen in Mount’s Bay and Daymer Bay which, although appearing to be of similar age, show evidence of development under quite distinct conditions.

Shoreline felt and finds near Porthtowan
Booking is essential. Join us for a beach clean, learn about and take inspiration from the seashore whilst playing our part in taking plastic out of our oceans. We will then use carefully selected marine litter from our ocean plastic finds to mix in with felt, from sheep’s wool, to create mini hangings, mobiles and pictures. Fulmar project strandline walk at Seaton
A strandline walk along Seaton Beach with researcher Alice Trevail of the South West Fulmar Project. Every northern fulmar found dead in the English Channel area now has plastic in its digestive tract. We'll talk as we walk with Alice explaining how marine plastic is affecting seabirds in the south west, the plastic load in these birds' guts and how her research is a powerful tool for informing policy makers about plastic litter. Social afterwards at the Seaton Beach Cafe.

After the winter storms, it's time to count the damage as we clean the beach collecting and counting marine debris. Plastic? Ghost netting? Palm oil residue? Talk: A year in the life of a BDMLR vet at Looe
LMCG Volunteer and Veterinary Consultant with the charity British Divers Marine Life Rescue, (BDMLR) Darryl Thorpe describes the work of the charity's vets & trained volunteers. His talk will include highlights of his seal rescue work in the 2014/15 pupping season, and the work done by BDMLR throughout the year, rescuing marine animals around the UK coast including porpoises, dolphins, whales, seals, turtles and marine species of birds. Downderry beach clean
Parking provided by the Inn on the Shore and meeting point is at the slipway just east of the steps descending below the Inn on the Shore. Join volunteers from the village of Downderry and the Looe Marine Conservation Group for a beach clean that will stretch from the Downderry sea wall to Bass Rock. Claire Wallerstein will join us to talk about plastic bottle caps and their impact on the Marine environment.

Join marine life experts to look for and learn about whales, dolphins, sunfish, seals and sharks as part of Seaquest Southwest. Free, although donations to CWT welcome. Care should be taken on the path which is uneven, and can be slippery in wet weather.

Cornwall Butterfly Conservation have organised this trip in partnership with the Natural England team on the Lizard, and we’ll be looking for newly emerged Marsh Fritillaries, as well as hearing about the habitat management work NE have been undertaking for this protected butterfly. the event is free. Come and join the fun for a beach extravaganza at Perranporth!
