Looe is famous for its crabbing, but now is the chance to crab with a difference! Marine biologists and local fishermen will teach you about these enigmatic and feisty creatures, including lobsters, and how Cornwall’s shellfish fishery is one of the most sustainable, and important, parts of the Cornish fishing industry. This is a closed reserve with no access to the general public. The Cornwall Wildlife Trust carries out the conservation work here so we will see some of the action being taken to protect and encourage the wildlife. The event is free.

Join in on a lovely stroll around Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Sylvia's Meadow Nature Reserve to look out for meadow flowers, then learn how to identify and record them.

This is the time of year when the very rare Silver Studded Blue Butterfly is usually on the wing at Penhale Sands - thousands can be seen flitting around or feeding in sheltered hollows in a good year, so we will have to see what the summer of 2012 brings and hopefully walk across the dunes whilst they are in flight. There are also many other types of butterfly and moths seen here, including day flying species, depending on the weather at the time and during the spring.

From tiny creepy crawlies which may crawl, fly or hop, to mammals, birds and plants, large and small – there is a huge range of things to discover and find out more about if you know where to look and are a good detective! This talk brings together the research of Cornwall College within the St Agnes VMCA, which covers such diverse topics as: the plankton species present, the nutrient and copper levels from the stream entering Trevaunance Cove and seabed habitat mapping.

Sue Scott, part of the ERCCIS team, will talk about her experience over the years of recording and working on the Wildlife Information Service, from exciting new records of dormice to more unlikely sightings of horseshoe crabs, penguins and big cats! £2. Group members and children are free.
