Devichoys Wood

An ancient woodland dating back to at least the 1650s

This site consists of ancient woodland and is a valuable remnant, supporting many typical woodland plants. Early references to this wood date back to 1652. Gnarled , twisted stems of sessile oak are a feature here, evidence of the historical management technique 'coppicing'. Various birdlife is to be seen, including the great spotted woodpecker
