Seaquest South-West
This recording project is run jointly by the Cornwall and Devon Wildlife
Trusts. It is for people who are interested in the larger marine creatures
such as dolphins, whales, seals, turtles and basking
sharks.
Seaquest aims to gather information necessary for conservation
and to raise awareness about the needs and lives of these incredible
animals. As well as survey work, Seaquest is leading the way on
education about marine life and relevant issues.
The group was launched in April 1998 and has already attracted well over
three hundred members in Cornwall alone. It has received extensive
media coverage since it started, with occurrences such as large gatherings
of basking sharks also helping to raise public awareness. People always
seem
interested in the frequent strandings of dolphins in the area, which
attract a lot of media interest too.
A special information pack is available to all new members of the group.
There is no charge or membership fee but any contributions towards
postage and photocopying are, of course, always welcome.
