Help us to cut gorse stems on the cliff top to make room for the cattle to graze this coastal grassland. Enjoy the fresh air, the exercise and the stunning sea view. There will be a bonfire with baked potatoes and the chance to take home some firewood to keep you warm! Families are very welcome, children must be over 8 years and will be their parent/carer’s responsibility. There will be a 10-15 minute walk from the parking to the clearance area. An illustrated talk by Peter King. Peter and his wife, Brenda, have travelled throughout Scotland on their photography wildlife trips. This year they spent a month on the Shetland Isles photographing the wildlife. Collections taken. Full Bar and parking facilities. All are welcome.

BOOKING ESSENTIAL. It is National Nest Box Week so join us in making one of two types of nest box for your garden birds: either open-fronted for robins or small-holed for blue tits. We will provide you with the tools, instructions, raw materials & expert help, but you will need to bring an adult with you to help you. Time slots of 11am til 1pm or 2pm til 4pm. Suitable for children aged 6+. £4.50 donation requested to help cover materials.

BOOKING ESSENTIAL. LIMITED PLACES. It is National Nest Box Weekend so come along and construct a nesting space for your favourite garden visitors. Tools and materials provided but you will need to bring an adult with you to help with the sawing and hammering. Cost: £7.50 per nest box, payable upon booking.

Friends of Kilminorth Woods AGM followed by talk on ‘Cornwall’s Seals, with special reference to Looe’, by Sue Sayer, Cornwall Seal Group. Donations are welcome.

Tom Hardy from Cornwall Wildlife Trust will talk about his work with local fishermen on inshore vessels using acoustic deterrent devices (pingers) to reduce dolphin and porpoise by-catch. £2. HMCG group members and children free.

Rupert Kirkwood, a vet from Holsworthy, has kayaked around the Cornish coast and out to the Scilly Isles. His illustrated talk shows wildlife as seen from on the water. £2 per person.

Looe Island Nature Reserve supports the second largest colony of greater black backed gulls in Cornwall. Bruce Taggart from Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society will tell us the work he is doing with local volunteers to tag and monitor these magnificent creatures. Free, but donations to the Looe VMCA Group are welcome.

An illustrated talk on dragonflies. Explore their lifecycle, behaviour and habitats by the county recorder Steve Jones. Great for those who are interested in dragonflies and recording in Cornwall.

An illustrated talk by Steve Bulford. From the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains, grouse leks (mating grounds) are spellbinding, yet at times amusing. The grouse leks are some of the most incredible display rituals in the bird world, each species has its own unique and bizarre performances, which involve ritualised dancing, curious vocalisations and extraordinary postures.

The fishing industry relies on the fish of the south west, but how much do we actually know about them? Fish biologist Doug Herdson will be speaking about these important and interesting marine creatures. Free, but donations to the Looe VMCA Group are welcome.

Come on a guided walk through woods and fields looking for hidden wildlife such as slow worms and field voles and then prepare to meet the centre's resident wildlife! Rescued foxes will entertain you in their barn, then you can learn about the ancient art of falconry with the tame owls, or you could meet Chewie the grass snake and his mammal friends in the classroom. £5.00 per child, payable upon booking and only one adult per family can attend.

Leatherback turtles have the widest distribution of any reptile, moving through tropical and temperate waters. With ecologist Dr Matthew Witt we will dive into their lifestyles and look at the behaviour and favourite foods of these long-lived, but at-risk, creatures. Cost of £2.
