Mammals in Cornwall
There are around 50 species of mammal found in and around Cornwall
and the Isles of Scilly, including bats, terrestrial and marine
mammals. These range from the smallest, the pygmy shrew - no bigger
than your thumb, to the largest - the fin whale, the second largest
animal in the world!
The Cornwall Wildlife Trust constantly updates its information
about the distribution of our mammals, their habitat preferences
and any specific threats. The more we can find out, the more effectively
we can conserve them and the habitats in which they live.
We are keen to know of any mammals, tracks or any other signs you
may come across. So please let us know what you have seen, when
you saw it, where you saw it and who you are!

All mammals are under-recorded in Cornwall and probably nationally,
so don't forget to send us your Cornish mammal
records.
