Cornwall Mammal
Group
The Cornwall Mammal Group was set up in 1999 and is affiliated
to The Mammal
Society. We share the same aims of raising awareness and understanding
of mammals; encouraging and supporting their recording; providing
training to survey mammals; promoting conservation of mammals and
their habitats and sharing interests and skills with others.

Like many counties, some mammals have been historically well represented
and Cornwall can boast of dedicated badger, otter
and bat groups. Our marine mammals
are also well catered for under Seaquest
Southwest. However, there was a distinct gap in terrestrial
mammal knowledge and recording and this is where Cornwall Mammal
Group aims its focus.
I am delighted a mammal project is now underway with the Environmental
Record Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. They have
instigated a four-year
mammal awareness-raising project and will utilise supporters
from all four of these dedicated groups. Together we can build up
a detailed knowledge of the distribution and status of our mammal
resource in the toe of Britain.

All mammals are under-recorded
in this county and probably nationally.
You can help simply by recording the mammals
you see and sending the records to us care of the Cornwall
Wildlife Trust.
The Cornwall Mammal Group newsletters are now
available to download via our web site. Please
see our downloads page for details.
