WWFP Sponsors boat

Worldwide Financial Planning sponsor our new boat

2nd October 2007

We are pleased to announce that we have now officially launched our new boat to be used between East Looe and St George’s Island.  Visiting this unique nature reserve has been made much easier thanks to the help of £30,000 from the County Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund and a substantial payment by the Trust’s corporate member Worldwide Financial Planning (www.wwfp.net).

The boat has spent the last ten years operating as the evening passenger ferry from Rock to Padstow.  Since purchasing the boat the Trust has made a few modifications and created livery to identify it as the St George’s Island boat.  The major difference between this boat and its predecessor, which had reached the end of its working life, is that the new boat has the capacity to land straight on the island beach with a drop-down bow door.  To date, the island boats have had to dock alongside a mobile landing-stage.  This has restricted access to the island for both visitors and staff delivering materials, equipment etc., plus the landing stage had to be physically moved up and down the beach according to the tide.

In addition to the advantages of the bow door, the new boat will provide comfortable seating for 12 passengers (any larger and 2 crew are required).  The boat is jet-drive, 26 feet in length, draws 18 inches has full safety equipment (life jackets etc.) and is MCA licensed.

Jon Ross, the Trust’s St George’s Island Warden said: “The new boat means easier access for visitors to the island and makes transporting equipment, groceries, fuel, even sheep, so much easier.  In the past we’ve had to fly large items over by helicopter so this boat is a great advance for the island and the Trust.”

Callum Deveney, the Trust’s reserves manager said, “We’re working hard to renovate the buildings on the island, install forms of renewal energy and improve access. Our job will be much easier now with the new boat.  I’d like to thank both County Environmental Trust and Worldwide Financial Planning for their help and ongoing support”.

Peter McGahan, managing director of the Truro and Wadebridge based independent financial advisors said, “We’re pleased to have helped make such a difference.  The Trust does an invaluable job and I enjoy supporting them as much as possible.  I love Cornwall and I think it is vital that the natural environment is looked after by experts.”

You can visit the island between Easter and September.  Please book in advance of your trip by calling Tim Corkhill on 07814 139223.  Crossings are tide and weather dependent.
