50th Anniversary

Cornwall Wildlife Trust started as The Cornwall Naturalists’ Trust in 1962 and during the last half century it has gone from strength to strength. Our 50th Anniversary was the perfect time to celebrate the fantastic achievements made for Cornwall's wildlife so far, as well as still looking towards the future.

We celebrated our 50th Anniversary with a whole variety of fantastic events and activities! There was something for everyone to get involved in, making it an incredible year to remember for Cornish wildlife!

From seahorses to seagrass meadows, from sunfish to seals, Cornwall’s marine environment is awe-inspiring. Our Living Seas Ball will be dedicated to the wonderful wildlife we are so lucky to have in Cornish seas.

Are you ready to help Cornwall's wildlife in 2012 and take part in our our ‘£50 for 50 years' challenge’? If so, we need people like you! Organising a fundraising event or getting sponsored to do an activity are fantastic ways to raise money for the Trust. Whether you are running a relaxed coffee morning, a fun football tournament, a delicious cake sale or an exhilarating parachute jump, we can help make your activity be the best it can be.

The Cornwall Tourism Awards 2012, hosted by VisitCornwall, included for the first time a 'Wildlife Friendly Business Award'. This very special category was organised as part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations, as well as to highlight how important the natural environment is to our county.

To celebrate half a century of protecting Cornwall’s wildlife, we launched ‘Wild About Cornwall’, a very special wildlife photography competition with The West Briton, our Official 50th Anniversary Media Partner.

As part of Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, celebrities from the world of television, sport, film and radio along with illustrators and authors were asked to put pen to paper and doodle a marine creature!
