The survey includes settling into a sea-watching session, scanning the water for wildlife sightings. There’s time for breaks, and attendees are encouraged to bring a hot drink in a flask, snacks, and binoculars if available. Please wear or bring warm, waterproof clothing, and sturdy footwear, as the event takes place on exposed cliffs, where weather conditions can be unpredictable. Safety is a top priority, so be prepared for uneven terrain and cold winds. Everyone is welcome, making it a perfect activity for families, individuals, and nature lovers alike.

Public transport: Take the Land’s End Coaster bus to either Porthcurno Car Park or the Minack Theatre. From there, follow the scenic cliff path to Gwennap Head, a walk of approximately two miles that takes about an hour. Be prepared for uneven terrain and coastal weather conditions.

Mobility

Participants should park at Porthgwarra Car Park, which is approximately a 15–20-minute walk from the survey site near Gwennap Head NCI Station. The walk involves uneven and sometimes steep terrain, including coastal paths with loose gravel, so sturdy footwear is essential. Unfortunately, the terrain may be challenging for those with mobility issues, as it includes rocky and narrow paths.

Porthgwarra is home to a public pay and display car park, a café, and public toilets. The car park is a gravel and dirt section of a field that has been closed off for parking; it is free of charge from November to March.

There are no designated quiet spaces or specific accessibility signage at this event. However, along Cornwall’s coast path, individuals may find peaceful spots to sit and take a moment to appreciate the natural surroundings and the coastal scenery.
