Carvings may have a natural finish, be hand painted or use a wood
burning technique called pyrography to bring out the detail.
The woodcarving studio at Steppy Downs not only sells carvings and
takes commissions, but also runs woodcarving courses at all levels. They
also have accommodation available. The Studio is situated with extensive
views of the Hayle Estuary to the north and St. Michael's Mount and
Penzance to the southwest. The village has a Post Office Store, a good
local Pub and a fourteenth century Church. There are many lovely country
and riverside walks to be enjoyed.
