Wild Penwith volunteers wanted for practical conservation tasks

7th December 2009

Are you interested in improving your local environment? Would you like to learn new skills, improve your health and wellbeing, and have fun? Are you currently unemployed or working less than sixteen hours a week? If this sounds like you, then Cornwall Wildlife Trust is looking for your help to undertake practical conservation tasks in Penwith.

The Trust will be running conservation work taster days at Baker’s Pit nature reserve near Nancledra on Tuesday 15th and Thursday 17th December to give you the opportunity to try out your outdoor practical skills. They’ll ensure that you have tea, coffee, biscuits and a pasty for lunch! All you need to bring is warm, waterproof outdoor clothing and strong footwear.Volunteers wanted for Wild Penwith project to do practical conservation work, photo by Cornwall Wildlife Trust

If you enjoy the taster session, you can join the Wild Penwith Volunteers group and come out for one day each week working on different practical conservation activities at a variety of locations across Penwith. The Trust can help with transport to task locations and offer you both formal and informal training opportunities that will increase your knowledge and skills. The Wild Penwith Volunteers project has been made possible through funding provided by the Community Grants Programme, the European Social Fund and the Learning and Skills Council.

Work undertaken by the volunteer group will contribute to the objectives of Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Living Landscape project, Wild Penwith. This is a five year programme funded by the Tubney Charitable Trust and Natural England. The project is based in West Penwith, where we will be working with local farmers, landowners, businesses and communities to restore and reconnect wildlife habitats across this working agricultural landscape.
