A very green event for very green people
5th February 2008
Cornwall Wildlife Trust held a Cornwall Community Climate Forum workshop on Saturday 2nd February in Truro. Over 30 representatives of climate change community groups across Cornwall attended with the aim of working together to tackle the issue of climate change.
The Forum was made possible by sponsorship from the Co-operative Group who also funded similar meetings held in each county across the whole of the South West.
Groups who attended included, the Co-operative Group, Saltash Rail Users, Cornwall Waste Action, Cornwall Green Party, Gunnislake Global Warming Action Group, but to name a few.
The day consisted of talks and workshops from the Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project, Cornwall Sustainable Energy Partnership, OAK, Cornwall Community Climate Forum, and Rising Tide Cornwall.
John Beach, project co-ordinator had conducted extensive research in recent months to identify the areas where community groups felt most in need of support regarding climate change, and his findings determined the issues discussed. Topics included the many support organisations which are available to advise such groups, ways to reach-out the general public and how to plan a campaign.
John said, “It was great to meet so many enthusiastic people from across Cornwall, all with interesting ideas about how we can help each other to be more effective. We are all determined to work together on all manner of climate change issues”.
The workshop was held at the Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust, just outside Truro, so that where possible, delegates could travel from all parts of the county by train or bus, to minimise the environmental impact of their journey. Lunch consisted of locally-sourced seasonal vegetable soups which kept delegates sustained through a cold day.
