Cornwall Wildlife Trust launches an Out and About Club
16th July 2007
Cornwall Wildlife Trust is engaging youngsters with their environment and is inviting them to come along to their new Out & About Club. This club is designed for young teenagers to learn more about the wildlife around them while taking part in exciting activities such as snorkelling, wildlife recording, habitat management (scrub-bashing and bonfire-making) and lots more.
Alison Forward, the Trust’s education officer explained, “These events are parent-free but are supervised by staff and volunteers who have all been police-checked and trained to work with young people under strict health & safety guidelines.”
The Trust is offering Out and About Clubbers the chance to become Sub-Aqua Explorers on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th August at Cawsand. From 10.00am to 12.00pm they are invited to come and discover the underwater wonders of this part of the coast, again with marine experts from the Marine Biological Association. Snorkelling over rocks and sand, they should see a ‘forest’ of different kinds of seaweed, fish such as the colourful wrasse, shoals of sand eels and fascinating crustaceans like the squat lobster. Afterwards they can learn how to use various identification techniques to find out more about what they have seen and how to use an underwater camera to record the species found.”
There may be a small charge at each event to help cover costs. If you fancy coming along to join the Trust this summer, please phone Alison Forward on 01872 273939 ext 212 to find out more or visit www.cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk.
