Events calendar

One of the main aims of the Cornwall Geoconservation Group is to raise people’s awareness of the geology of Cornwall and Scilly. Members of the group provide guided walks and talks throughout the year. These and other geological activities are published below and in Cornwall Wildlife Trust's Wild Cornwall and Wild Scilly magazine. You can also find these in the What's On section of this website.

Cornwall Geoconservation Group events are open to all. Be more climate friendly and help to reduce congestion in Cornwall by car sharing with friends. Field trips are at your own risk. Appropriate clothing and footwear are essential. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Mines, Maps and Models.

Talk by Dr Keith Russ.

A remarkable display of 3D computer-generated models of Cornish mines and mine planning around old workings. Star and Planet Formation.

Talk by Professor Mathew Bate, University of Exeter.

Prof. Bate is a numerical astrophysicist who uses supercomputers to study the processes of star and planet formation. This entails self-gravitating fluid dynamical simulations, some of which also include radiation transport and magnetic fields, and often requires months and years of computer time. The output of his work includes some extraordinary and beautiful dynamic images.
