Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
The Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS) is hosted by Cornwall Wildlife Trust. It acts as a focus for the collation, management and provision of local biological and geological data and other related information.
By working with local individuals and organisations that regularly record the species, habitats and geology in the area, ERCCIS is gathering the wealth of wildlife and geological information that exists for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. As information is sent in it is validated and entered on to a computer database.
ERCCIS uses a geographical information system (GIS), which comprises Ordnance Survey base maps overlaid with wildlife information, such as boundaries of designated wildlife sites and the location of various habitats or species.
Anyone can request data from ERCCIS, for example local authority planners, local recorders, students and the general public. People use their information for making decisions about planning applications, how to manage their land, carrying out survey and project work, or often just for general interest.
ERCCIS operates the Wildlife Information Service, which provides information on wildlife to the general public and many local and national organisations.
